Mary DeCamp Officially Announces Her Candidacy for
City Council from Ward III
Tucson – Green Party Candidate Mary DeCamp will officially announce her candidacy
Friday at 2pm for the Ward 3 Tucson City Council seat in the 2009 general election. She
will also outline her campaign platform and explain how the political foundation laid by
the Green Party’s Ten Key Values can lead Tucson to the increasingly necessary
sustainable future.
Tucson’s voters are facing the challenges of catastrophic global warming, peak oil, and
economic collapse. We need real answers not more of the same. Ms. DeCamp’s
platform is based on sustainable practices that offer pragmatic and realistic steps to
improve our community’s future. In order to carry out these necessary plans, she has
qualified as a candidate for the Ward 3 City Council seat on the November ballot.
In the past, an unquenchable thirst for growth has compromised the quality of life in the
Old Pueblo. People work low-wage jobs that send profits out of town and into the bank
accounts of absentee owners. We need to re-order our priorities and relocalize our
efforts.
Ms DeCamp’s small town rural upbringing, coupled with an extensive education in
business, political science, and communication, enable her to speak truth to power. Her
history of neighborhood activism stands in sharp contrast to the corporate dominance of
our community championed by the current Mayor and Council. When elected, she will
work to focus attention and resources on our neighborhoods and our people rather than on
big businesses’ interests.
Tucsonans must build community resilience to equip ourselves to survive and thrive in
rapidly changing times instead of looking for multi-national corporations or big
government to save us.
